Last week when I went grocery shopping I bought strawberries on sale, fully intending to make strawberry shortcake for dessert on Mother's Day. That didn't work out and so I planned to make it again on Thursday. Wash, rinse, repeat. Tonight, I finally got around to it, and we had my friend C over for dinner and a movie and enjoyed the most yummy shortcake ever. You can read about it here, on my For the Love of Bread blog.
We have 22 more days of school left until this year is over. I am taking the day before my birthday off, so that leaves 21. The part of me that loves summer vacation can't wait, and the part of me that hasn't found a summer job yet is not happy one bit. We had some gorgeous weather, then this past week was chilly and starting tomorrow it's going to be nice again. So long as it doesn't snow again, I don't care. Tomorrow I plan to go for a run (shhhhhhhhhhhh.. I'm going to go darnit.. I need to get my routine back), mow the lawn and do some weeding. We'll end the day with dinner on the grill and possibly a cold, adult beverage and then it will be back to the grind on Monday.

Done.
I believe that everything in life happens for a reason. We may not know what that reason is right away, and sometimes, in some circumstances, we might never know. Having said that, sometimes life throws things at us that just plain suck. Under such circumstances, hearing someone say, "Well you know, everything happens for a reason", or "God has a purpose for this", makes me want to punch someone in the heart. Or at least knock their teeth out.
Five people that I know (five.. and only one of them is a virtual friend!) are battling cancer right now. Five of the bravest people in the world as far as I'm concerned. Fighting the unknown, battling scary things like "stages" and "reoccurance" and "terminal", having to poison themselves in order to be healthy again (who else sees the irony in that?). Cancer sucks. Having cancer sucks more.

Right Now I Should Be......
1. Mowing the lawn. But it's raining, so maybe I will mow the lawn tomorrow after I get back from my hike. I just mowed it last weekend, and you'd never be able to tell, because apparently the weeds are on overdrive this year, and it's all tall and yucky looking.
2. Stretching, after a nice run, but before mowing the lawn (cuz if you're all sweaty from a run, might as well do something yucky like mow). See above for why I didn't get my run in today. Maybe tomorrow before dinner I'll go out, because I'm not going for a 3 mile run after a 3 mile hike, or before. That's crazy talk.

Tuesday Musings
So my weekend didn't go exactly as I had hoped. A major catastrophy befell the servers at school (in The Boy's office even, at the district level) and he spent all weekend working. I did go and hike Gap Mtn, which is 3 miles round trip, so that covered my "hike" and "run" requirements I think. I started a sleeve for my sweater, got 3/4 of the way done and realized when I started the cap decreases I started with the wrong part of the lace pattern, and now I need to re-do it. That's depressing. I didn't get to Kimball's. I did weed 90% of that back garden, and got my herbs transplanted and new herbs put in, so that is a good feeling, and I did spring clean my craft room. All in all, not a bad weekend, just not what I had in mind. The hike was lovely, and I went with a friend so that was nice too.
