Looking Back at 2009

Looking Back at 2009 (stolen from Becca)

1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before? built a fence, went on a random road trip through the entire state of VT.. can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I resolve every year to drink more beer, which I did. I also resolved to spend more time for myself.. which I did but not enough.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? My sister-in-law gave birth to my beautiful niece who is the love of my life.

4. Did anyone close to you die? Yes, my Gram passed away on January 6th, and I miss her a lot.

5. Did you visit anywhere exciting? Vermont! We started at the bottom, and drove up the entire state and back in one day. It was crazy, and fun and I enjoyed it a lot.

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009? Less worry, more financial stability, a car so that having two teens with a million activities would be easier to manage, but that's not going to happen.

7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? Jan. 6, the day my Gram died. Jan 21, the day my niece was born.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Building a fence. Not killing my teen-aged son. Giving up the guest room and renovating it into a room for ME. Working through a rough spot in an important relationship and making it work. Running a 4.5 mile road race.

9. What was your biggest mistake? I didn't make any big mistakes, just a bunch of small ones.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Not this year.

11. What was the best thing you bought? A gorgeous upright piano for only $210.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? ummm... not sure.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? I don’t know…or don’t remember.

14. Where did most of your money go in 2009? Oil, Groceries and household bills. Gah!

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? The fence, the new craft room, my new niece.

16. What song(s) will always remind you of 2009? I've got a Feeling (oooh-oooh) that tonight's gonna be a good night...

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier because at this time last year I was burying my Gram.
ii. thinner or fatter? Judging by the pants that are falling off.. I'm going to say thinner.
iii. richer or poorer? neither..

18. What do you wish you’d done more of? goofing off, spending quality time with Neal instead of just being in the same room doing our own thing, letting things go.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of? Going to meetings (cut back on this), screwing off on the computer, eating stuff that isn't good for you.

20. How did you spend Christmas? At home with a good friend.

21. Did you fall in love in ‘09? With my new niece, again with my husband after a rough patch in the spring/early summer...

22. What was your favorite TV program? Grey's Anatomy, Brothers and Sisters, Private Practice, How I Met your mother, Big Bang Theory.

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? I don't typically hate people.

24. What was the best book you read? This is Where I leave You

25. What was your greatest musical discovery? that I can play the piano pretty well

26. What did you want and get? A craft room, a new fence, not to have to work during the summer.

27. What did you want and not get? it doesn't matter... I always have wants that I don't get.. part of life.

28. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I turned 35, and I worked.

A Photo A Day Keeps The..............

So it's no secret that I love photography. In fact, photography was one of my first hobbies, along with painting and drawing. Far before I was ever a scrapbooker, I was a photographer. It's kind of a natural progression I think. Over the past few years, I've noticed that my "just take a picture cuz you love it" pictures were becoming few and far between. I've been more of an event photographer, which while I enjoy, was making me a little sad.

One Little Word

Ali Edwards started a challenge a few years back, that involved picking what she calls "one little word" and making that the focus of your year. Last year my word started out as nurture and ended up as revive. The year before it was pause. I think I did much better last year than the year before.. but I really want to do even better this year. I've been struggling with my word this year. I reviewed the list of people's chosen words for last year and nothing jumped out at me. I thought about what I wanted out of this year, but nothing was screaming "use me!" until today. I was un-decorating the last tree, and suddenly I knew what I wanted my word to be.
