We Hope You Will Enjoy The Show....

When she was in first grade, or maybe it was second (it's been a long time now, I can't remember)... Ms. Thang surprised the HELL out of me and got the lead part in the winter show. It was a cute little number about bullying, and she played Bully the Bullfrog in a show titled, A Froggy Day in Lindentown. Not only did she have speaking parts, she had solo singing parts and I was so damn proud of her. She has a natural talent for music, and loves to sing. When she told me that she had a solo in the spring show this year, I wasn't one bit surprised. The only thing she told me, was that it was for Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, and she was singing with Paige. I told her I'd stay far away from rehearsals, and skip the afternoon dress rehearsal so I could be surprised the night of the show.

All afternoon people told me what a beautiful voice she has, and how much they enjoyed her singing today. I heard over and over, "Your daughter did a great job!" My "adopted mom", came and searched me out and said how much she enjoyed Ashley's singing, and how today's show reminded her of "that show she did when she was little".. and I knew just what she was talking about. I came home and told her all the good things I had heard, and she smiled. She wasn't nervous anymore and soon it was time to leave again.

The show was about the history of music. They started with some cave-men, and traveled up through several generations of music. Ash had several parts in the show, and sang a solo in Sgt. Pepper that was nothing short of amazing. She has amazing self confidence that I will never know, and every time in her life that she has gotten up in front of a crowd and sang, or gave a speaking part she has just blown me away. We have already worked it out with the Middle School/HS band teacher for her to take band and concert choir at the same time while she is in 7-12th grade, and her current music teacher vouched for her ability to keep up with both. I can't wait to see where it takes her.

I don't really want to stop the show,
But I thought that you might like to know,
That the singer's going to sing a song,
And he wants you all to sing along.
So let me introduce to you
The one and only Billy Shears
And Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

What would you think if I sang out of tune,
Would you stand up and walk out on me.
Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song,
And I'll try not to sing out of key.
I get by with a little help from my friends
Bravo to Ms Thang!

As in the way I sounded when I was demonstrating to the kids with some of my old musical instruments after not touching them for 15 years.
