This is what Vacation looks like.....

This is the view out one of the two windows on the back of my house in the family room. The family room/kitchen part of my house was an addition to the original house way back sometime. The family room was built in place of an old porch that stood in it's place, so it has kind of a sloped ceiling. The part by the windows is the lowest part (normal-ish ceiling height (a little higher).. and the part where it connects to the kitchen (which has a dead crawl space above it that is closed in) is wayyyyyyyyyyy high.. like half way up the second story of the original house. If you can imagine that my house faces one direction, and the roof slopes so that the snow would fall of the back... the family room is where that snow falls.. and it's roof faces sideways to that original house. So the snow falls off the slate roof, lands on the metal roof on top of the family room.. then slides down and lands on the ground in front of those windows. (if you followed all that give yourself a pat on the back) We've gotten so much snow this winter, you can't sit on a seat in the family room and see out the window. You can't stand in the room and see out the windows really either. You actually have to go to the window and look over the snow to see out.

This is the view across the street from the front of the original house. There is an embankment there that is rather steep.. and is where we pitch out biodegradable items. Branches, leafs in the fall etc. The town is using that embankment to dispose of snow. That truck is taking down snowbanks from the triangles near the common, because they are so large you can't see past them at the moment, and sending it over the bank. The reason he is doing this today.... is because tomorrow evening into Wed. we are going to get another half a foot of snow. The whole idea of more snow makes me want to crawl under the bed and stay there until June. I'm tired of ice. I'm tired of sleet. I'm tired of shoveling. I haven't walked (other than to and from school down the icy sidewalk) in months. I know this sounds whiny.. but I am so. effing. done. with. winter. The only nice thing.. is that the sun is out today. For the first time in what seems like forever on a day I'm home. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go see where I put my shovel.

I remember with our first house we had replaced the shingled roof with metal. It seemed like a great idea until you have an 8 ft packed embankment to hack through to get to the driveway.

Thanks for making me feel good about moving South!
