And the Fugly of the year award goes too..

I read a blog.. called You Knit What??.

Very funny stuff.. and she was inspired to create it by reading Go Fug Yourself. I occasionally surf over there..and being it's rainy and I'm sick and bored, I found this today
And the Fugly of the year award goes to..

Dark, Dark..night?

It was a dark and lonely night...

wait. It's not night. It's 1 o'clock in the afternoon. And it is as dark as it would be at 8pm right now.

Severe thunderstorms are moving through my area.. bringing with them torrential downpours. Now, considering the heat/humidity latley .. this shouldn't be a bad thing right?

Wrong. It poured ALL DAY LONG yesterday. To the tune, according to my rain gauge, of 4 and a half inches. That's equal to 4 and a half feet of snow had it been January.

4 and a half inches of rain equals a lot of water. We're still not dried out yet. And new we are in for more.

But my man will have my head if he finds out I had my laptop on during a thunderstorm..so I must go. Ciao!

Learn something new every day

Some things I learned this weekend:

1. When the roof guy tells you all he needs is 3 rain free days to get the roof done, what he really means is 3 weeks. It's been two so far, and um, yah.. if it's done by the end of this week it'll be a miracle.

2. Being sick in the summer sucks. When weather.com says it's 93deg, and feels like 97, the last thing you want to do is curl up under a blanket and sleep until you feel better. What you really want to do is plunge yourself into an ice bath. That won't make you feel better either.

Friday Five 6/24

5 Things I love about summer

1. The quiet time I have in the morning after the dh leaves and before the kids get up (although my daughter is an early riser so I don't always get this, but when I do it's lovely)

2. Eating breakfast on the porch and watching the birds play in the yard, or listening to my little neighbor across the street squealing in the kitchen

3. Walking. I feel guilty sometimes at the end of the day when I walk, because I'm taking away from the limited time I get with my kids.. don't need to worry about that in the summer

4. The slow, easy pace that the days go by with

5. Warm sunny weather

A..Frikken...Men

A vacation is what you take when you can no longer take what you've been taking. ~Earl Wilson

46 is my favorite number.

That is the number of days in a row (not counting weekends) I have coming up that I don't have to work. I don't have to think about work, (ok, that's not true I have some projects to do over the summer) I don't have to be at work, and I don't have to worry about work.

Summer vacation rocks. Here's to surviving another year.

Houston, we have a problem!

CBS had this great show on tonight, with the 100 most famous movie lines. Not only did you get the line, you got the back history and the scene it was in so you could hear it in context.

What I loved almost more than the quotes/clips, was the commentary from famous actors/actresses. I've never been a big Patrick Swazey fan, but boy is he looking fine in his old age.

Anyhow, if you missed it (all one of you who read this lol) it was a purty good way to pass a Tuesday night when you're too tired to see straight.

2. More. Days.

Dear Old Dad

"Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person, having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all out, just as they are, chaff and grain together, certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and with a breath of kindness blow the rest away." ~Dinah Craik

Father's Day is always a bittersweet day for me. On one had I have the relationship with my own father, and the scars from it, long healed over, still pain me like they were fresh. On the other hand, is the relationship my own children have with their father.

My Father-in-law did a heck of a job raising his sons. To say I envy the relationship my kids have with my DH would be a gross understatement. They will never doubt for one minute that their dad ever loved them. He is funny and playful and nurturing. Very similar to his own dad, whom I love with all my heart.

So to all you dad's out there, Happy Father's Day. Enjoy the day with your kids.

Five of my favorite Quotes:

1. What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

2. You don't love a woman because she is beautiful, she is beautiful because you love her. ~Author Unknown

3. I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday. ~Author Unknown

4. The soul would have no rainbow had the eyes no tears. ~John Vance Cheney

5. What is that you express in your eyes? It seems to me more than all the words I have read in my life. ~ Walt Whitman

They're coming to take me away ha ha

Oh. My. Goodness. (ok, so I wanted to type it but I'm trying to get better)

I love field trips. I love getting out of school for the day, I love the great places we drive through on the way there, I love the neat things we get to do once we get there, and even having peanut butter and jelly for lunch...cuz isn't that field trip food?

What I don't love is the bus ride. The bus ride there makes me jittery, the bus ride home makes me want to come home and drink myself into a stupor. Busses should have seat belts, if for no other reason, so I don't have to say (a million billion times) "_______ please turn around and keep your feet inside the seat."

Our field trip today was 1.5 hours away to a fabulous science museum along the Connecticut River in VT. That's 3 hours of "keep your hands to yourself" and "please sit down in your seat"-ing.

I need a day off to recover.

The Final Countdown...

sing with me, you know you remember that song.

7 more days of school

And that last day, is a half day. So really, we only have 6.5.

Not that anyone is counting

I'm being repressed!

We are on what must be the millionth day in a row of heavy, wet, oppresive air. The dew point has been in the 70's, buisness's who's A/C doesn't work are sending their employees home (woos-bags, we work in a 150plus year old school and it's 85-90 in some of those classrooms, and we are still going) and you walk outside and feel like you just steped out of the shower.

Now don't get me wrong, I love the hot weather. But... (knew that was coming right?) we went from 40 deg days, to 90 with no breaking in period. Our bodies weren't given a nice 70 deg. stretch to get used to the hot. That and the humidity rolled in like a brick. I'll take 90 any day of the week, just leave the humidity at the door.

Today it's supposed to storm, and then be in the 60's. Until Saturday. That's the kind of weather we get. All or nothing baby. If you can't stand the heat..

Friday Five-6/10

Reading is Fundamental

1. The one book that I have read over and over again, is the Anne of Green Gables series. My mom got it for me one year for Christmas, and I just love it. In fact, I think I'll read it this summer. After that it would T.B. White's Once and Future King.

2. My favorite genre of books, is a tie between mystery, and nice stories (is that even one? LOL). Actually, there really isn't any one type of book I don't like, except for those romance novels.

3. Due to space and money restraints I get a lot of books at the library. Although I do own a lot of my all time favorites. I'd still like to get Every Nora Roberts book ever written, The Entire Spencer series.. (eyes book cases). Someday.

Hot..Hot.. Baby..

So I am totally hooked on this Hit Me Baby 1 More Time show. I love the tidbits they do on the bands, I love to see what they are doing now, and listen to how they sound doing their hits now after all these years.

What I don't like.. is the cover's they do of current hit songs. Dear Lord strike me down with hot fire. If you're going to cover a song, at least pick one that you can do well. Or if not well, how about one that doesn't make me want to poke my eardrums out with knitting needles.

I'm not surprised Vanilla Ice won this week although I do like The Knack and Tommy Two-Tone and thought that The Knack did the best job with their cover song. And I have to say, I'm looking forward to hearing Irene Cara sing Fame next week. I always loved that song.

Oye Vey!

There is no worse feeling than when the school nurse seeks you out in the middle of the day. Especially during the lunch/recess time. It means one of two things. Your child is injured, or sick.

I never get so lucky as to draw the injured cards. Seems my poor little gal hasn't been feeling so hot today, and went to see the nurse cuz she felt sick during lunch. So the nurse kept her in her office to eat, sent her out for some fresh air. And she vomited all over the blacktop. Then came in and vomited in the nurses office.

So the poor thing who has not missed one day of school all year long, got sent home for the first time in her school existence and is lying on the couch watching a movie.

And I have 2 glorious hours off today.

A few letters

Dear end of school countdown,
They say that 13 is an unlucky number, but I actually felt my heart leap in my chest when I came home today and changed the number. 13. Thirteen. 10+3= freedom. Yah, that's the new math. Tomorrow you will read 12, which at one point in my life was my favorite number. But now, you are my favorite friend. Keep those numbers going down.

Dear Weather Dudes,
You suck. There is a big ass difference between 60 and 80. I know yesterday you said that today would be 20* colder than yesterday, and this morning you repeated. When I went out to water my flowers it was chilly. So I wore a thin chenille sweater to school with my capri's.. thinking I was so smart. But how wrong I was. You made a fool out of me with your lying ways. Do you not realize that we actually pay attention to the weather out here, and there were kids in sweatshirts and jeans, all ready for a COLD day. 80 is not cold. Not even in New Mexico. Please find a new job.

Friday Five 6/3

Five things I am thankful for Today.

1. It's Friday

2. There are only 14 more glorious days of school left this year.

3. It's Friday

4. The sun has been out for 3 days in a row now.

5. Did I mention it's Friday?

Varmints!

So every year I buy a few more mature perennial's for my garden right in the front of the house. This year I bought 3, along with 3 different color daliah's (love them) for the other side that already has a well established garden. Yesterday after school was the first chance I've had since Monday to plant them.

So I went out and dug and tended and got them all in. Last night I had a meeting that lasted well past 9:30, and when I walked home I stopped to admire how nice it was starting to look and came in.

This morning when I got up was a whole different ballgame. Some naughty little critter had a splendid time last night DIGGING UP MY PLANTS! All my newly planted plants were dug up and lying on their sides next to their holes except one. My rock was turned over , my frog thermometer was knocked over. I, however, was not impressed.

Himself says it was probably a raccoon, or a possum, or perhaps a naughty little squirel digging for worms etc. They better hope they never show their faces in these parts again. We'll see what happens tommorrow.
