Don't Go Breaking my Heart

Late Thursday afternoon, while I waited for the boy to come home so we could attend a function at school, I started a little hat. I found this pattern on the internets, and cast on for the "large preemie size." I decided to use a ball of my Rowan Cashsoft Baby DK that I bought with my Christmas money. I used the Limone color.

The yarn is a little fussy, you can machine wash it but it has to dry flat. My friend Jen won't care about that. This yarn is as soft as butter and I wanted something that wouldn't irritate Gavyn's sensitive skin.

We went to the function, came back, and I finished the hat. I got to the part where it said "fold in half and seam up", folded and I had to stop. Self, I thought, this can't be right. Your gauge must be off. There isn't any POSSIBLE way this tiny little hat could fit a baby. Until I gave thought to the baseball comment Jen made. And I went and found a green apple and tried it on. I wasn't sure if I wanted to cry or throw up, but I felt my heart breaking, a little bit at a time.

I brought it to school with me on Friday, and it was going to make its way up to Lebanon today. Jen is getting discharged this afternoon, and she is going to stay up there until he is able to come home. They want him in the Oxygen tent until at least Monday, and we will see where it goes from there. I heard that he opens his eyes when mom and dad talk to him, and squeezes their fingers. Thanks for all your good thoughts.

Definately heartbreaking. Love it, though, and it will be a keepsake they will treasure. I'm sure.

Oh that does make my heart break a little. I hope he's getting bigger and stronger by the minute. And the hat is adorable, his little head will love it.
