Bah Humbug

Ya'll.. I really didn't think I was going to make it. I had the number of days to focus on.. I had the countdown... the clips... the whole kit and caboodle.. and despite it all... I thought today would never come. These past 56 school days have been the longest in my carer. I'm not at liberty to discuss the whys and whathaveyou's... but lets just say that I'm already counting the days until Christmas break. (20 school days in case you are wondering). This year is kicking my arse. We knew it was going to be hard.. but no one expected things to be this hard. I hate to admit this out loud, but I've had days that were so awful.. I've come home and had to cry in the quiet of my own room. I walk that delicate balance back and forth across the edge every day, and some days I feel like I'm going to fall over and never make it back.

Things have quieted down on the home front, at least temporarily. Soccer is over. We have no more scheduled drumming gigs until April, and playing is on hiatus until January. Our CD has been recorded and I've given up playing on Wednesday nights. The Wednesday night group was the one I originally started with and I am saddened that I will no longer be a part of it-but I'm much happier where I am and it will make life a little easier to give it up. DH however has had lots of budget meetings this month so life is still hectic, just no so much.

While we have shopped Black Friday sales in the past, nothing is calling out for us to venture out into the wee hours of Friday morning this year. I am 80% finished with my shopping. All the gifts I have purchased (save the ones that arrived in the mail today) are wrapped. I have a game plan for the rest of the gifts I need to acquire (minus the few things I want to get for DH and the kids that I haven't gotten already). I am ahead of the game with the shopping.. but haven't started baking. The house is almost 100% fall cleaned. 2 more rooms people.. 2 more rooms. One will be done tomorrow (love having the day before Thanksgiving off) and the kitchen, which I always save for last will be done over several days/evenings.

The kids have both been invited to sleepovers Friday night at different friends houses. I can't remember the last time we've had a night to ourselves with no kids. I think we might be daring and go out on a date. Nothing major.. probably just into town for coffee, or beer. Maybe a little non-kid shopping. Maybe some desert. We'll play it by ear. We decorate for Christmas on Friday and I almost said "no" when they asked, but opportunities like this don't come too often. Hopefully this sore throat I have is just from how much I've expended my vocal cords over the past two days and nothing else.

"Charlie Brown: We've got ANOTHER holiday to worry about. It seems Thanksgiving Day is upon us.
Sally Brown: I haven't even finished eating all of my Halloween candy. "
