Putting Fall to Rest

The days following Thanksgiving are usually a little hectic at my house. We take down all the fall decor.. drag all the Christmas stuff down from storage and Deck the Halls. This event usually starts in the wee hours of the morning, due to some "must get up at the arse crack of dawn and buy" item. This year however, there was no such item to be bought. And so we did something unheard of. We slept in.

As much as I am a fan of sleeping, I'm not such a fan of sleeping in. I feel like so much of the morning is wasted if you get up "late".

We won't discuss what my definition of "late" is.. you'd groan right out loud. So anyhow, after a late start, things were moving right along. The downstairs was almost decked out, the first tree was almost up.. and lit.. and then came lunch. And I sat and ate lunch, and something about the tree was nagging at me. Then I realized.. it was the wrong tree. We have two trees.. and one is smaller than the other. The smaller tree lives in the family room where it is a perfect little fit.. this much larger tree, while it was assembling ok.. wasn't going to be able to stay. There was some grouchiness from the tree assembler/light rigger.. there was some cursing... there was some un-tree-making and moving. And then the right tree was assembled. And lit. And decorated by not-so-small children. One went off for a sleepover, and one stayed to partake in the decorating festivities. It was all brought to a screeching halt by a few strands of bad lights.

Today was errands and more decorating, and lights were replaced and all is right again with the world. The Boy spent his time working on some stuff outdoors. My wonderful roof guy was here, and there is an issue with some siding near the roof he is replacing and so new siding had to be primed and blah blah blah. At least the weather is favorable at the moment. I hung the wreaths.. but the fence still needs decorating and the porch isn't done yet. It looks Christmasy, but 50 degree weather doesn't feel Christmasy. Our big shin-dig is 2 weeks from today, and I feel more ready.. but yet so far from being finished. I need a break from my school break! Or at least a few more days off.

Doesn't if feel good to accomplish things like this? Kudos to the tree assembler for being a good sport, minus the four letter words. :) I've said it a hundred times, but I still wish I could come to your homey house and visit for a while. A long while. :)

If Abby's coming then I'm coming too! But I'd freeze my butt off in no time and slink back to warmer climates. The tree thing would've sent my family right over the edge. Your boy is a keeper...cursing and all. Also, we have the same table as you. What are the odds?
