How I Spent My Summer Vacation

This is my porch at the end of June. Notice the grey "barn-board" that runs vertical around the whole thing. There is a section of house that connects to the barn that looks very similar to the right of this. We decided that only the barn should have barn board and embarked upon the biggest house project we've done so far. Our naive little minds figured it'd take a few weekends and we'd move on to something else. We were so wrong.

This is what it looked like once we got all the boards off. We won't even get into how long that took, or the gigantic nails the prior owner hammered in to keep those foolish nails he originally used from popping the boards right off. Notice the lovely white Styrofoam "insulation". I won't even begin to speculate, except that I think it was cheap? Hey, it was the 80's. We all did crazy things back then.

This is what it looked like yesterday around 6:00pm. It took us all afternoon in the blazing hot sun and muggy August heat, but we finally finished the front. We replaced the light (there was a nasty onion looking light there before) and re-did the exterior outlet and replaced the rotting window frame while were were at it. Now we just have a section of the back (that looked similar to the front start photo)and we'll be done. Piece of cake.

This is what it looked like this morning. I am amazed that my husband got a shot so similar to the first one he took before we started. It will eventually be painted white with black trim, along with the rest of the house (right now it just has one coat of primer on it) to restore it back to it's colonial paint job. I think it will look awesome when it's done. Not bad for a bunch of amateurs.
