Let the Sun Shine.....

See that??? Are you looking real close??? That my faithful readers (all 4 of you) is the sky. It may not seem like a big deal to some, but where I live it's huge. We haven't seen the sky since last Monday. May the 8th. Half the days in this month have been grey and rainy. Half of my state is underwater right now. Fortunately for us, we were spared the heaviest of the rain. After the washout we had in October, we couldn't really handle too much rain. So instead of a foot like some other parts of the state, we got almost 5 inches. Granted an inch and a half of that fell since last night... but 5 inches of rain still beats 12.5. In case you care, each inch of rain that falls is equal to a foot of snow. If it had been a month ago that all this rain came... (shudders). Not a pretty thing to think about.

One of my brothers gave me these frogs a few Christmas's ago. The one on the left is a thermometer (that I never read but it's a cute pair) and the one on the right is a rain gauge. He holds 5 inches of water. You'll see that the tube is near full. This little guy provides much enjoyment to my children. Last year when we had the 40 days and 40 nights of rain right at the end of the school year (I'm noticing a trend aren't you?) they spent a week in July tracking how much rain we got each day. It was an impressive 11.5 inches of rain that fell that week.

Where my friend lives got that much rain over the past 3 days. The roads all around her are flooded and she's worried. I can't say that I blame her. My brothers best friend's basement flooded and he spent the better part of the other night helping him pump it out. They have a little daughter and now they need to worry about mold. Schools are still closed, people are still being evacuated, houses are flooded as are roads and parts of towns and cities are under water. 2 short weeks ago it was so dry that half the state was on fire.. and now here we are. More water than we know what to do with. Happy Medium.. what's that??
