Saturday's Sky...

Saturday's sky was dark and gloomy. We got rain from early morning until late during the night... and it ranged from light and misty to OMG it's pouring out. These sky photos were taken from Greenfield State Park where we spent the weekend camping. It was hot and sunny when we left on Friday. Humid as all get out. The air was so wet and heavy you could almost drink it. They talked about rain during the weekend.. chance of this.. passing that. You hear that so often that you almost don't believe it, because half the time it doesn't pan out.

We got a bit of a rain event when we first showed up on Friday at the campsite. It passed quick, but not before it soaked our picnic table. It didn't rain again that night, and I thought maybe the weathermen were wrong. HA! I was wrong. Saturday was the wetest day I've ever spent camping. Sometime during the afternoon it poured so hard you couldn't see in front of you. And then mother nature stuck up her middle finger at us, and it rained harder!!!! The kind of rain that is so loud, you can't hear anything but the rain pouring down. Buckets and buckets of water fell down from the sky in droves.

Thanks to the genius of one of my brothers, we stayed mostly dry all weekend. We did do some finishing in the rain yesterday morning. We did some exploring and other things in the rain as well. But because he's smarter than I am (and I actually heckled him for this Friday when we were setting up... ) he brought a huge tarp. 30 feet long huge. He heard it was going to pour all weekend on the way to the campground Friday, and went and exchanged his tarp for a bigger one. Did I mention it was 30 feet? Not only did we have 30 feet of dry campsite, it also covered our campfire. So last night when everyone else was soaking wet.. we sat around the fire and laughed and had a great time.
Then this morning, we got a bit of a break. The day was mostly cloudy and overcast, but look..at that last photo.. through the trees.. the sun! And then when we were at the lake fishing, we were treated to these fantastic views. It was chilly, and windy, and the sun peeked out from behind those clouds when it could manage. Not a stellar day, but hey, it wasn't raining! Back to work tomorrow, and it's going to be hot, sunny and in the mid-80's.

I'll share more from our actual trip tomorrow, and then on Tuesday I'll treat you to some fabulous photos the boy took while sharpening his photography skills this weekend. Some of them are photo contest worthy, IMO.

Looks like even with the rain you had a great time. Thank God for tarps, eh?
